Our story
Two carpenters, one borrowed sofa and a lot of opinions.
Hearth & Home began in 2014 when Ines and Tobias Calloway, a furniture restorer and a joiner, opened a workshop on a Portland wharf and quickly found that nobody wanted their old sofas fixed - they wanted new ones that would not need it.
So they started making, then sourcing, then editing. Today we work with eleven small workshops in Maine, Portugal, Lithuania and Rajasthan, and every piece in the shop has been sat on, dragged across a floor and photographed in our showroom.

01
Comfort first
Every sofa is tested by our team for a full week before we sell it. If we would not nap on it, it does not make the catalogue.
02
Fewer, better things
We stock about forty products and replace them slowly. A small range means we know every piece and can fix every piece.
03
Honest materials
Solid wood, top-grain leather, natural fibre. Nothing pretending to be something else, and every listing tells you what is inside.
04
Made to be repaired
Frames are bolted, covers zip off, and we keep spare parts for ten years. Repair guides are free on request.

How we choose
- Visit the workshop. We meet every maker, see every finish and check every joint before we agree to sell their work.
- Live with a sample. Pieces move into the showroom or our homes for a season. Anything that annoys us is out.
- Price it fairly. We show you where the money goes: materials, labour, delivery and our margin. No inflated "was" prices.
